It was literally only 1 or 2 degrees above zero the day we went to the Bernkastel Market. Tyler didn't really want to go, but I made him, and as luck would have it...he packed all of the kids coats and then forgot his own! He must really love me, and I must really be cruel because we got out of the car and spent a good hour at the market anyway. The kids were in snow suits, but our faces still froze and Sawyer finally decided that he was DONE! We got lots of good things to eat before we left though and really, that's the reason we go! This is also one of my favorite German towns! It's so cute! It's in the middle of a narrow valley covered in vinyards and there is a river along side of it with a castle on the hill above. The house in the picture below has been decorated as an advent calendar and they open a new window each day.
The final picture says it all! It looks beautiful there, and although the cold sounds terrible, I'm sure the food made up for it. What was that yummy dumpling called, with the sauce, that you love so much? Well, we were talking about you guys at dinner the past two nights (I don't know how it came up either night, but it was fun reminiscing). Last night I was telling Bryan the story of the Hobo dinners we had in Switzerland that first summer. We were so starved, and it was late, and when your poor husband finally dove into his meal, he was so sad to learn that the hamburger patty in each of yours were about the size of a quarter. And your poor cousin, too! They ate the scraps off of all of my kid's dinners, as well as mine. Desperate times... And then tonight we were reliving Tuscany, and Brigg's "episode" in the attic. Bryan's dad reminds us of that every time we're together. I'm sure Briggs will be happy to be known by "that" for the rest of his life! (And please tell me that you remember what I'm talking about). Well anyway...we obviously need to talk! Move back to the states already so we can meet up for Spring Break!! :)
Having this picture on my blog is the only excuse I have to look at it...so it's here to stay.
Overheard at Our House
Yesterday as Tyler was having his Father/Son interview with Briggs they got talking about signs of the last days and Second Coming. Tyler told Briggs that there would be a lot of natural disasters such as tornadoes, earthquakes, and tidal waves. Briggs said, "Oh yeah! I know! And like losing a coin or Playstation and busted controllers!"
Tyler recently spent 5 hours in the emergency room with Porter after a particularly bad attack of an asthma like condition he has. Driving home at the end of the 5 hours Porter turned to Tyler and said, "Dad, I appreciate your obedience. You were very good and very brave."
A Recent Dinner Conversation:
Porter: (As Mom shoes a fly away from his head) This fly is my buddy Mom!
Mom: Well did you know that your buddy has poo-poo feet?
Porter: (Choked out between sobs and a torrent of tears.) Don't call my buddy a name! Why did you say that about my buddy Mom? He doesn't have poo-poo on his feet!
Nothing I could say made it better. He only cried more until I just apologized for the poo-poo name calling incident.
